Summer in New Hampshire…GLP takes a break???
What a great way to start up the first GLP blog post. Summer is here, the weather is warm and there is time to relax a little and recharge the batteries.
Well not really…if you are one of the fortunate companies chosen by our amazing & wildly successful team of judges to receive the GLP 2.0 funding, life just got pretty busy. The GLP team has been hard at work over the last couple of months, “launching” our companies into the GLP machine. This has included meeting the Governor & US Secretary of Energy, Steven Chu, setting up contracts, learning about the nuances around invoicing, meeting with the professors and making sure their business match up to the many hurdles a Federally funded agency expects. All in all, the 6 companies have had it through relatively unscathed.
As they move into the next phase of support, the companies are being exposed to many resources the GLP team has to offer, from meeting potential clients and policy makers to having one on one coaching sessions with GLP’s own Entrepreneur in Residence (EIR) on a bi-monthly basis. And recently through a well attended Summer Seminar Series at the Idea Greenhouse in Durham, where they were educated about the challenges in developing a “green business in a black & white world” by Pat Mansfield of Enertrac. A GLP 1.0 company. In addition, Steven Casey of Rain discussed the importance of building an online brand and how to leverage the many online tools a small business can use to succeed.
The key to success for GLP 2.0 companies, was summed up best by Governor Lynch in their initial closed door meeting. He said that all the companies needed to stay focused on bringing their products or services to the customer and if they did that, his wish was that they would all be wildly successful. One of the judges also added to that perfect statement by the Governor by saying, ”stay focused like a crevice, go narrow and deep with your business development”.
The GLP’s wish for all these companies is to see them achieve their well deserved success and we hope that the resources and support the organization offers will make those goals a reality.
Enjoy the rest of the relaxing summer, the fall is going to get exciting.
